Former Olympic Runner is Ruled Not Eligible to Run for NJ State Senator

Carl Lewis filed earlier this year to run for the New Jersey State Senate, however, he will be left off the upcoming ballot after a long battle over his residency status. Lewis, who went to Willingboro High School in New Jersey’s Burlington County, was an Olympian track and field athlete during the 80s and 90s.

Despite owning homes in the state since 2005, volunteering as a track coach at his former high school for the past few years, and earning 10 Olympic medals between 1984 and 1996 –OK, that last one has more to do with his achievement than residency– he will have to sit this particular race out.

Here is a video of Carl Lewis jumping over 28 feet during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, an event that many of us older NJ answering service operators remember well.
